GUIDE OF VISIT

Qingchuan Pavilion
Qingchuan Pavilion, one of Wuhan’s "Three Great Scenic Wonders" (alongside the Yellow Crane Tower and Guqin Platform), is located on Yugongji Ridge at the eastern foot of Guishan Mountain in Hanyang District. Overlooking the Han River to the north and the Yangtze River to the east, it faces the Yellow Crane Tower across the river. Its name originates from the Tang Dynasty poet Cui Hao’s verse, "Sunlit trees of Hanyang are clearly seen." Built during the Ming Dynasty’s Jiajing period (1522–1566) to commemorate Yu the Great’s flood control, the complex spans 10,000 square meters and features three main structures—Qingchuan Pavilion, Yu-Ji Palace, and Tiemen Pass—alongside over a dozen auxiliary buildings. Blending northern and southern architectural styles, its red-walled, vermilion-pillared structures with double-eave Xieshan roofs are hailed as a "masterpiece of Chu culture." Free to enter, visitors can ascend the pavilion for panoramic views of the Yangtze River Bridge and the waterfront.

Hanyang Marshland
Hanyang Marshland is a public recreational area along the confluence of the Yangtze and Han Rivers. Known for its natural waterfront landscapes and green spaces, it is ideal for strolling, sightseeing, and photography. Together with Hankou Marshland and Wuchang Marshland, it forms Wuhan’s "Riverfront Scenic Belt." By day, visitors enjoy the rushing river currents, while evenings bring dazzling light shows and gentle breezes.

History & Culture
Built in the Ming Dynasty under the supervision of Hanyang Governor Fan Zhizhen, it was originally an extension of the Yu Wang Temple (Yu the Great Temple) and later renamed after Cui Hao’s poetic line.
Ranked among the "Four Great Towers of Chu" (with Yueyang Tower, Yellow Crane Tower, and Zhongxuan Tower), it is celebrated as the "Foremost Tower of Chu."
The site preserves cultural relics like the Yu Stele and stone-carved Bixi (mythical turtle-like creature), alongside Qing Dynasty calligraphy and poetry inscriptions, including couplets by Zhang Zhidong.
Architectural Features
The two-story main pavilion, standing 17.5 meters tall, combines traditional wooden and stone craftsmanship with a red-and-vermilion color scheme, reflecting both Chu cultural motifs and blended regional styles.
Yu-Ji Palace, a Qing-era wooden hall, served as a ceremonial site for worshipping Yu the Great. Tiemen Pass, a reconstructed Three Kingdoms-era military fortress, now stands as a cultural landmark.
Views & Activities
Panoramic vistas include the Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge, Guishan TV Tower, and the distant Yellow Crane Tower.
Cherry blossoms bloom in spring (near the Qingchuan Holiday Inn garden), while evening light shows illuminate the riverscape.
Hours: 9:00 AM–5:00 PM (last entry at 4:30 PM); free admission.
